Summer Solstice

by WAHOUSES

Summer is here! Today, we have 16 hours of sunlight. Get out there and soak it in!!!

Summer Solstice, also known as the June Solstice, is an astronomical event that occurs each year in the Northern Hemisphere on or around June 20th or 21st (depending on the exact time zone). For us in Washington, the Summer Solstice begins at 7:57 AM. It marks the beginning of the summer season and the longest day of the year when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky and has the most hours of daylight.

During the Summer Solstice, the tilt of the Earth's axis is inclined towards the sun, causing the Northern Hemisphere to receive the most direct sunlight of the year. This also means that the Southern Hemisphere experiences the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year.

The Summer Solstice has been celebrated for thousands of years by various cultures and religions around the world. It is often associated with fertility, abundance, and the start of new beginnings. Many people also use this time to connect with nature, spend time outdoors, and celebrate the warmth and beauty of the summer season.
